To keep her beloved son's fine spirit alive, Chad's artist mother founded The Chad Foundation For Athletes and Artists, a nonprofit, charitable organization whose mission is to inspire youth to live as Chad did - vibrantly and generously, without substance abuse. As The Chad Foundation wishes to raise awareness of and prevent other sudden deaths in young athletes, and aid in its research and preventive measures, we have chosen The Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Heart Center as our primary beneficiary. In the Annual Chad Volleyball Tournaments, we have raised over $10,000 for the children at the Heart Institute and our donations are growing annually. A computer was also purchased for the Heart Institute in Chad's name. In the past, players from the UCLA Bruins have participated to help support this special cause. The most recent tournament was held on September 30, 2001, at Zuma Beach in Malibu.

In cooperation with Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Heart Center and Agilent Technologies, The Chad Foundation has sponsored ted a free echocardiogram screenings for young athletes at North Hollywood High School, where Chad graduated in 1985, as well as other schools around the country. The Chad Foundation is working to promote free echocardiogram screening on a nationwide basis, to increase awareness of undetected heart diseases such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which took Chad's young life without warning in 1994.
